Healthy Snacks for a Summer Car Trip

Taking a vacation this summer? Just because you’re away doesn’t mean you can’t still eat healthy.

Hit the road—and make smart food choices—with these tips. Packing plenty of healthy snacks can help you skip the fast food. Be sure to bring bottled water to stay hydrated and avoid high-calorie drinks loaded with sugar.

Non-Perishable Snacks
  • Nuts or trail mix (try making your own with a combination of almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, dried cranberries, and unsweetened flaked coconut)
  • Whole fruit, including oranges, apples, bananas and grapes
  • Shelf-stable tuna snack packs
  • Pita crisps
  • Granola bars
  • A peanut butter or almond butter sandwich on whole wheat bread

Perishable Snacks to Keep on Ice in a Cooler
  • Hummus and cut veggies, including carrots, sugar snap peas and broccoli
  • Cut fruit, including apples, melon and pineapple
