How To Effectively Organize A Small Space

Stress can come from a lot of different sources. Jobs, finances and other demands of life can take a toll on your mental health. Your home can provide a safe haven from that stress, unless, of course, its disorganization adds another layer of strain. A survey of over 800 U.S. workers found that 66% of people said they spent 30 minutes each week looking for a lost item in their space. Small spaces may feel like they get cluttered more easily, but with just a little work, any space can become a soothing surrounding.

 

Here are some ideas to create a less stressful environment:

 

  • Declutter for just 15 minutes a day. You’ll make amazing progress over a few days.
  • Put on music as you clean. It makes time go by faster and gives you more energy.
  • Purge everything you don’t use. Recycle, toss, donate or have a yard sale for unwanted items.
  • Organize first, find storage second. Wait until after you’ve cleaned your space then find the appropriate storage system. It saves time and money.
  • Introduce plants to the space. Experts believe this can create positive energy.
  • Opt for natural lighting when possible. Fluorescent lighting can cause fatigue.
  • Put things away, not just down. Instead of laying them on the closest flat surface, make specific space for specific items.
  • Think before your purchase. Each time you’re about to buy something other than groceries ask yourself about it. Do you need this? Where will you put it? If you’re not sure, put it back.
