This Natural Supplement Can Help You Catch More Zzzs

How’ve you been sleeping? According to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), chances are, you may be having some trouble. Their recent research shows that more than a third of Americans aren’t getting enough sleep on a regular basis.

How much do you need? The American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society recommend that adults between the ages of 18 and 60 get at least seven hours each night for optimal health and well being.

That’s where melatonin comes in. Melatonin is a natural hormone created by the brain’s pineal gland. Melatonin regulates your circadian rhythm, which is responsible for your sleep cycle. Lots of things can interfere with melatonin production, including an overly busy schedule, stress and exposure to artificial light.

Luckily, melatonin is available in supplement form. Taking a melatonin supplement at night can help you better regulate your hormone and stress levels. Taken before bed, it can help signal your body that it’s time to get some rest.

Talk to your doctor to see if a melatonin supplement may be right for you. He or she can advise you on the dosage and how often you should take it based on your body and unique physical condition.
