Simple Ways to Improve Happiness

Sometimes, when you’re feeling down, the thought of boosting your mood can seem like a major task. The good news? Simple and attainable actions are often found to have a big impact on improving happiness.
Here are six simple ways to boost your mood:
1) Make sure that you have these essential bases covered:
- Get enough sleep
- Eat nutritious meals
- Drink enough water
By eating a diet high in fruits, vegetables, fish and whole grains, you can lower your risk of depression by fighting inflammation. Plus, these foods will help you sustain energy throughout your day.
2) Do things you enjoy. Did you have hobbies when you were younger? Give them another try. The key with any hobby is to do it for your own enjoyment, regardless of skill level.
- Learn how to play an instrument
- Try baking or cooking
- Garden
- Draw or paint
- Read
3) Start a journal. Research shows that it can have many positive effects on your mind. Journaling is a great way to help you process events and feelings and also promotes self-awareness.
- If you need a place to start, try writing down the things you are grateful for
4) Physical activity helps release dopamine, your brain’s naturally-occurring, feel good response.
- If you’re new to exercise, start small by taking walks around the block
- Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate activity per day
5) Nature can also provide the boost you seek. Go to the beach or to your local park. Being in the sun can also help you get vitamin D and increase levels of serotonin in your brain. Both of these benefits are shown to improve your mood, sharpen your focus and lower stress.
6) Listen to music that you love. It has the power to give you a quick burst of happiness. So, go ahead and listen to your favorite jams!
