Creative Ways to Work Out Outside the Gym

Shake up your normal routine with these tips.

Many people get bored with the same old exercises at the gym. If you need some inspiration, skip the gym and get creative with your routine. These tips can help you get started.

  1. If you love to swim, add in a few sets of abs to boost your burn. Support yourself on the edge of the pool and crunch your legs into your chest.

  2. Taking the stairs is a great alternative to riding in an elevator. Ratchet up your workout by taking the stairs two or three at a time.

  3. Improvise equipment as you go. Use the back of a park bench to do a few leaning pushups—and build upper body strength.
