5 Ways to Manage Blood Pressure

Managing your blood pressure is critical to your heart’s health. Try these tips to help stay healthy.

  1. Lose extra weight
Blood pressure often increases as weight increases. Losing just 10 lbs. can help lower your blood pressure.

  2. Exercise regularly
Working out for 30 minutes a day can help lower your blood pressure. Try walking, jogging, cycling, swimming or dancing.

  3. Eat a healthy diet
Choosing foods low in salt and fat can help lower blood pressure. Eat whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Keep a food diary to track what you eat.

  4. Limit sodium
Read food labels and watch for hidden salt. Eat fewer processed foods, and reach for herbs and spices to give you a flavor boost.

  5. Reduce stress
Chronic stress contributes to high blood pressure. Try to identify your stress triggers, and modify your behavior to avoid them when possible. Also, take 20 minutes a day to relax and do something you enjoy.
