Online Provider Directories Help You Go Green

Going green is more than just saving paper.  It’s about the convenience of having the most up-to-date information available when you need it, wherever you are.

Plus if you are traveling, it’s a good idea to prepare for the unexpected, including the need for unexpected medical care.  The online Provider Directory and the new “Blue Finder” app make it easy to locate a Preferred provider anytime you need care.

The Provider Directory
The provider directories distributed by some local Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans are printed once a year and only provide a list of Preferred physicians, hospitals and other health care professionals that are Preferred when the directories go to print.  The Provider Directory on our web site contains the most current listing of Preferred providers nationwide and network provider overseas – it is updated at least every two weeks to reflect new providers and providers that have left our Preferred network.
It is also easy to use – you can quickly search for a specific provider or for a new provider in your area. 

Still need a printed directory of providers in your area?  Or maybe you want to create a directory for the area where you are spending your summer vacation?  You can create your own personal provider directory using the online Provider Directory by selecting the Print option on the search results page.

New for 2012, we now have an app for the Service Benefit Plan provider directory in both the Apple and Android stores.  The Blue National Doctor & Hospital Finder ℠ or “Blue Finder” app gives you access to all of our Preferred providers nationwide by location.  The app also provides a map and driving instructions for each provider as well as a click-to-call function so you can call the provider directly.  And like the Provider Directory on our web site, the app provider listing is also updated at least every two weeks.

Easy.  Convenient.  Up-to-Date.  The Provider Directory on our web site and the new provider directory app are the right choices when you need to search for a provider.

New Services When You Live or Travel Overseas
First, members now have the convenience of submitting claims for medical care performed and prescription drugs purchased overseas through MyBlue Portal.  This is good news for you because submitting claims online decreases the amount of time it will take to process and pay your claims.

It’s easy to submit your claims electronically.

  1. Go to MyBlue Portal and log-in if you have already registered.  If not, you will have to set up a MyBlue account.
  2. On the MyBlue Welcome page, select Submit Overseas Claims Online.
  3. Follow the step-by-step directions to submit the claim, including completing the fillable claim form PDF, scanning your bills, and uploading the files.

We have also updated the overseas benefit information and FAQs  to reflect the new online claims submission process.

Second, take advantage of bank wire payment and get your payment faster for overseas medical claims.  Combined with submitting overseas claims online, selecting bank wire payments offers you paperless and faster payment than a check.  You can select to have the wire payment in a foreign currency or U.S. dollars.  Just complete Section 6 of the online overseas medical claim form to make to select wire payments and the currency you prefer.

Payments for covered drugs and supplies you purchase from pharmacies outside the U.S., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands can only be made by check in U.S. dollars.
